Dahlia
This Dahlia is a Georgia O’Keefe like Flower. The macro photography captures the heart of the flower in vivid color. The pink of the petals surrounds the yellow center of the flower that is highlighted by gold metallic threads. The art is framed using a fillet separating the fiber from painted canvas. The canvas is covered in a medium that includes glass beads. The glass lends a reflective sheen to the art.
The Dahlia has an interesting history. Spaniards reported finding the Dahlia growing in Mexico in 1525, but the earliest known description is by Francisco Hernández, physician to Philip II, who was ordered to visit Mexico in 1570 to study the “natural products of that country”.
