Threadbare

This piece of thread art is based on a photograph that I took as we branded 200 calves one day at my ranch in New Mexico.  This cowboy was taking a break between his turn to rope 15 calves for branding.  He had already roped over 60 calves when I took this photo.  you can see the rope burn on his finger. As he relaxed, he grabbed a cigarette and casually played with his rope getting ready for his next turn.  I love his jacket!  It is totally threadbare. Many times, I do not see all of the details in a piece of art as I begin the stitching process.  I laughed when I got to the post behind him.  There is a cell phone on the post!  He is truly a Modern Cowboy.
